Yeah I know that you had to do that. Well, I personally use a big map combo, and two things stand out in a bad way in the map. One is the SR map, which will be fixed from SR author in time I hope, and, well, Cyprus. I am Greek and therefore I go to Cyprus a lot in-game, and it stands out in the map.

@paokkerkir

Right, I use a lot of combos too, so I know exactly what is wrong and I can admit, the Cyprus
erroneous location of Promods data pisses me off too, BUT that is a Promods error! Check out
my video on Promods erroneously located areas made with the SCS original World Map BG. It
shows VERY clearly that Promods has used a wrong map projection when they created those
parts. For me it's very clear that they have used a Mercator projection instead of a Lambert
Conic Conformal one. Sorry for the technical language here, but there's a BIG difference between
them, I can assure you. And that is what we see now as the difference is maximum in the
outer areas of the map.

EDIT: And believe me, it is a piece of cake to move Cyprus to the correct location, if Promods
wants to do that!

Dont take it to your heart Bengan, some things are as they are. Maybe i'm ignorant but i dont care about that much "real location" or "realism" in general. Some maps are "good" but i've been in real locations in some places and no map has the "thing" captured. SCS, like others, think they nailed if they make a real landmark per 1000km.
False. Atleast maps like Utopia doesnt pretend is about real places, that's honest atitude and i respect that.
So, it's nice and important to see the world map as it should be, but some maps are old, the SCS editor background has shifted lately and to be honest, if the Southern Region for example was mine, i will be very sceptic about rescale. I mean, is important...but the work behind it...HUGE.
My focus is to use a map that works well, because i prefer that than a corect map positioned crash.

As for Promods... a map that is not that simple as YKS was, is very hard to touch later. I always say i rather make a new area than edit the old ones, and if i have to, i'll better delete all than detailing old stuff.
And they handled their background to fit their map only, so the argument about combos is dead in their eyes. I'm not gonna say that is wrong or good. It's their map and sience anyone ask about it as main ETS map, i really dont see the reason for them to take this into consideration.

@Arayas

We didn't talk about rescaling the WHOLE of Promods map, ONLY Cyprus and Iceland
is important. These are islands and should be fairly simple to copy and paste to their
correct position, I don't even think it's needed to do any rescale.

What pisses me off is that they CLAIM that they have adopted the "New map projection"
that SCS changed to a couple of versions ago, BUT instead of doing that they got even
further away from that! PERIOD!

They adopted their map projection, as they knewed better, maybe not that perfect.
Second, very often areas with companies, cities, sensible prefabs and even some models can be selected for moving, copy/paste, delete or even cut but the moment you move that arrow or choose a command the editor crashes.
Trust me, during YKS rescale that was my biggest problem. The whole job was move something-save, move-save and so on. I was forced to change prefabs or even to move some models in far sectors because crashes.
I remember making the Promods-Roex road connection in FYR i had to leave a stray prefab in the open from Promods Osijek city because soon i was hitting delete button, crash. Is not just that simple.

@paokkerkir & @kzcornel & @Arayas

Okay mates, here's the facts today! First I made a simple mod of the SCS original Map Editor
background for Europe. Then I added that to the plain Promods files in a mod folder. Started
the Editor, loaded Promods with SCS's BG, selected all of Cyprus, moved it to the SCS position.
Al in all it took me 5 minutes to do, NO CRASHES whatsoever. I then made a mod of the saved
map data, added it in my PM245 based BIG combo profile right above PM245's map mod, started
the game with the original SCS BG and the following video is the result. Note that I could have
positioned the Cyprus data a bit better, this is just to illustrate that Promods could fix this in
NOTIME! I bet it is as easy to fix the movement of Iceland too, thereby fixing the whole UK
mess they have created for themselves!

@Arayas

Why do you get that many crashes? Have you maxed the resources when starting the Editor?
I have the following arguments in my shortcut for starting the Editor on a europe map.

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 227300 -edit europe -force_mods -noworkshop -mm_max_resource_size 100 -mm_max_tmp_buffers_size 1000

Well, it's not that they cannot do it, it's plain simple that they don't want to.

I dont know, it may be the turkish custom materials, or too many selected....There are problems with cut planes, if you move just one node...
I'm on your side here, but i've told you, i understand ...kinda...their point. It's easy for them to adjust their fake background to fit the map, than the map to fit a real background.
Not to say, once you add another maps and the background is not fitting anymore, well..."it's that map problem..or that map..."

Cyprus is small, you proved is easy task. Island may be the same. But UK...i dont see Promods messing with that.

I'm telling you this just to keep your expectation in low level. I dont bet my money on Southern Region if you ask me, but we will see.

Well, that's where you lose me! Why? Just to manifest their greatness, they decide when to do what?

@Arayas

UK they don't have to mess with, if they only tick that choice in Map Editor,
SCS will rescale that part on the fly for them, just as they rescale their own
UK. Same with Ireland, it's the Iceland that at one time got Promods to mess
up! I have NO expectations, mate! With this I just want to tell people WHY I
WON'T correct their mess! PERIOD!
