Strange Problem with compatibility mode [1.35 DX11]

Post by FunTrucker_18 » November 7th, 2019, 9:45 pm

Hello guys, I guess this is the right place to tell you about the problem I encounter.

I've swapped from Windows 7 to 10 some days ago. While the performance with DX11 was great on Windows 7 it's pretty crap with Windows 10 now. It's pretty laggy and I have many stutters while driving. So I thought about trying to run ETS2 with the "Compatibility Mode" for Windows 7 but ETS doesn't want to start. I'll get a pop up windows that "No Valid graphics card was found" and 5 points saying to update everything. This happens only with DX11, DX9 seems to work. But DX9 has a poor performance. I tried to run it with and without mods. Gamelog doesn't tell anything.

So why DX11 performance got worse with Windows 10 and why compatibility mode doesn't work? Everything is up to date.

My PC specs are:

Nvidia GeForce 610M (2GB)
Intel Core i3-2350 (2.30 GHz with multithreading)
750 GB HDD
6 GB RAM

-Yep, it's pretty low and old but it worked for me on lower settings, DX11 worked just fine on Windows 7.

Ps: Please, don't come to me with: "Get a new PC" - I can't afford it at the moment.

Without having any experience with Win 10 I don't think it has anything with DX11
to do, unless you haven't got the DX11.1 version, which is what SCS are using. So,
check the DirectX 11 version installed. Any other game with the same problem, ATS?
You should NOT have to use Compatibility mode on this modern just updated game!

Don't have ATS. But I have DX12 according to dxdiag. Could this be the problem? I can't install DX11 again, as this is the most actual version :|

I think dxdiag only shows the latest installed version. Can you look at the ETS2 game log and
check for any DirectX related messages? There you should at least get what ETS2 finds when
it comes to DX version. In my ATS running DX11 I get:
running on x86_64 / Windows 8.1 x64 (version 6.3)
DirectX version : 4.09.00.0904
What's yours?

I think you look in all the wrong places.
First Windows 10 it's a resource attack. The background services reporting to Microsoft all your moves, even farts for that matter, are working on RAM memory and CPU rape.
Second, the graphic driver for Windows 10 is way different than the same one for W7.

I am a BIG W10 hater, but my devices are not suporting W7 so i have to live with the devil.
I did an experiment with the same game, same level, on same PC, i had 35-40 FPS in W10 and 60 FPS in W7.
Leave DirectX alone.

Well, there's a reason I haven't upgraded to Win 10 from my Win 8.1 which a lot of people consider
the WORST EVER Windows version. :D FunTrucker_18, after having run DxDiag and checked under
Display tabs, I saved all info and this is what I get under section Display Devices regarding DX levels:
DDI Version: 11.1
Feature Levels: 11.1,11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1
Driver Model: WDDM 1.3
What do you get?

Btw guys, can I define a special DirectX version for a certain application?

I have DX12 installed and I guess this is the problem. Can I revert back to 11.1?

@FunTrucker_18

No you can't, as the game itself is requesting to attach to the proper version. So,
please, do the test I showed you, your system probably supports 11.1 already as
well as other versions. I just want to see it in black and white!

Win 10 runs with DX 12, yes. But I can use DX 11 in the game. No problem ;)
