[DX11] Help regarding Nvidia Profile Inspector (NPI)
Re: [DX11] Help regarding Nvidia Profile Inspector (NPI)
Hi Bengen, I can understand as I had not shared pictures but let me try my own to figure out what is the best possible graphic for my rig and my eyes...might take help from an expert here in the future.
Thanks, @tantalus for the reply... your reply is giving me great relief that I am not missing something here.
you are correct I am facing the same problem as you described that jagged shadows, especially on fences, wires and light poll when the light comes down or coming from big cable lines...
I am still digging up NPI setting for this issue...I am not a quick learner so reading the first post repeatedly and going through other posts as well:
Temporary solution: running my game with below NPI setting
Antialiasing setting : 32xS [Combined: 2x2 SS + 8x MS]
Antialiasing Transparency supersampling : 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling with
Vsync: Use the 3D application setting
In config file Vsync off.
As a result much better shadow on the wires and light poll but there is no much improvement on the fence

@t2patel
Sorry my friend, if you read the first post you'll see this.
As you can see there's NO reason to use any higher level of AA than 4x.
Regarding V-Sync set to OFF in game, does that mean that you don't have
ANY Frame Rate Limiter activated? If so, that's not good!
Sorry my friend, if you read the first post you'll see this.
Code: Select all
'2x [2x Multisampling]'
'2x Sparse Grid Supersampling'
'4xS [Combined 1x2 SS + 2x Multisampling (D3D Only)]'
'2x Sparse Grid Supersampling'
'4x [4x Multisampling]'
'4x Sparse Grid Supersampling'
Note: The higher values listed below are currently only providing 4x Multisampling.
'8xQ [8x Multisampling]'
'8x Sparse Grid Supersampling'
'32xS (Combined 2x2SS + 8xMS)'
'8x Sparse Grid Supersampling'

@MrPapaBear
Do you by any chance use more than one Frame Rate Limiter. If so they might fight
each other and giving odd results.

You really are a stubborn one! We all know about the shadow problem,
but the reason I asked for a screenshot was to see if his jagged shadows were
due to NO AA present.

Yes, I had read this that there is no reason to use any higher level of AA than 4x but I had tried all mentioned AA setting one by one and got the best graphic from '32xS (Combined 2x2SS + 8xMS)'
'8x Sparse Grid Supersampling' with almost nil less Jagged line and good shadows on wire, poll so its realistic
I don't know the reason behind it but at this moment, I am more than happy to see my graphic as its much much better than earlier.
I spent almost US$ 2600 to get rid of this jagged line and proper shadows but still not succeed.
Yes, V-Sync is OFF in-game, getting a good frames rate also around 60 to 90 FPS depends on the map location
Let me ask you why it is not good? as I said, I am digging in NPI setting so want to know the CONSEQUENCE

In one of your post you mentioned the method to check whether AA is working or not so followed that and changed the resolution 100% to 125% game will blurry so I am sure my AA setting is working.

The goal is NOT to get as high a FPS as possible, it is to get a constant FPS at the highest
possible value! You have a 144Hz monitor, try to set r_vsync in config.cfg to "3" and see if
you can get a constant FPS=48. Also set t_averaging_window_length "96" in config.cfg,
double the aimed FPS. This will NOT have any impact on graphics itself, but should get
you a smoother experience without stuttering or screen tearing.

I am still facing some jagged line at the far end and shadow is not good, traffic vehicle seeing blurry at far end.
Humble request you to see my below setting and suggest the best possible to eliminate the above issue
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry to keep you busy on weekend.
NPI setting
Ambient Occlusion Compatibility : 0x00000032 (FIFA 14)
Antialiasing compatibility (DX11) : 0x80000A7F
SLI compatibility bits: 0x03402085 (Euro Truck Simulator 2)
Frame Rate Limiter V3: Off
Maximum pre-rendered frames : 3
V Sync: Use the 3D application setting
Antialiasing - Line gamma: Enabled
Antialiasing Mode: Override and application settings
Antialiasing setting : 4x (4x Multisampling)
Antialiasing Transparency supersampling : 4x Sparse Grid supersampling
Note If I use below then the graphic is little better but screen tearing is there while seeing left and right
'32xS (Combined 2x2SS + 8xMS)'
'8x Sparse Grid Supersampling'
Anisotropic filtering mode: User-defined / off
Anisotropic filtering setting: 16x
Texture filtering driver-controlled LOD Bias: Off
Texture filtering LOD Bias (DX) : -1.0000
Texture filtering Quality: High quality
Ambient occlusion setting: High quality
Power management mode: Prefer maximum performance
In NCP
Only change Image sharpening in ETS2 program setting: sharpen 0.50, ignore film grain 0.17
In Config change
uset r_multimon_mode "4"
uset r_buffer_page_size "50"
uset r_mirror_scale_y "1"
uset r_mirror_scale_x "1"
uset r_scale_y "1"
uset r_scale_x "1"
uset r_smaa "0"
uset g_menu_aa_limit "8"
uset g_hq_3d_scale "0.0"
uset g_hq_3d_screenshot "0"
uset r_ssao "0"
uset r_sun_shadow_texture_size "4096"
uset r_vsync "3"
uset t_averaging_window_length "96"
Awaiting your helpful reply.

Re: [DX11] Help regarding Nvidia Profile Inspector (NPI)
Thanks Bengan! Now I remember, because you mentioned to check if there’s more then one limiter active. So yes and no there’s the npi limiter and the in game limiter. And a few weeks back I run into the same problem. Vsync always off in game. So a few weeks back I changed the setting In game from 144(limited by NPI to 72) back to default because my frames wouldn’t stay at the for me usual 72 FPS. For some reason now I have to change it back ones again to get my sweet spot of 72fps.
Why this is happening I don’t know

With what we know right now I would say, stick to 4xMSAA+4xSGSSAA. Regarding AO settings
in NPI, it doesn't matter what settings you have as long as the following is set. The reason is
that NPI AO does not get proper due to SCS's implementation of its SSAO. Both of them should
be OFF. Ambient occlusion usage: Disabled
I recommend that you raise the Texture filtering LOD Bias (DX) : -1.5000.
Also keep uset r_sun_shadow_texture_size to at least "8192" to at least get decent shadows.
BTW, did you manage to get a pretty stable, constant FPS=48 by setting r_vsync to "3"?
