@tantalus

The only options you have in the /def files are these two parameters:

Code: Select all

	ui_map_center:	(223000.0, 71000.0)	// in editor coordinates
	ui_map_size:	(17600.0, 18300.0)	// map texture in real km
And with those 2 you can only move and scale in 2 directions. So no,
not much to do there, as you have 15 different maps to consider, of
which NONE is 100% properly located. I have done one SAT BG in which
I bypassed the REALITY and actually dragged the image around here and
there to be able to get it at least decent and that is the EAA standalone
map BG, as there I ONLY had ONE badly scaled and located map to care
about. But even that had it's limit if you look at the coast of Chile, where
the map is so misplaced I couldn't deform the image to counter that.

And you have to understand, if the responsible mapper has no background or not the same backgroundmap as this one we are using in the game how should he know if he is right with the player's backgroundmap.

There are several maps in use as it seems and the rough shape is logically the same but the coastal lines may be light different or the scs background might be different as the background from Bengan and all those issues.

The mapper for example uses scs background and his map is perfect in place, good job done there might he've been thinking, but then we are coming and use Bengans background which may differ from this and Bham, the map is not longer Properly aligned..

This would only be possible if scs and all mapper would use the same exactly the same backgroundmap as a world standard so to say..

But even not every player uses Bengans backgrounds some uses scs and they would have no problems with misaligned maps.. So this is a individual problem of using which backdroundmap..

So, right you are and that's why I hate that SCS wasn't seeing and acting
early on the willingness to map mod the game. They should have given
us a much bigger Map Editor background image and corresponding in-game
UI map. Now I have had to do that and the good thing is though, that I now
also have supported a lot of teams and mappers with a ME BG in line with
the in-game UI map!

Maybe things get better now.. But not all mappers may it use now. So you have to reach all mappers which are working in a 1:19 scale..

@MG Mike

Yes, and I don't! :cry: I also feel that it actually isn't my job
to do that. I started rather optimistic by trying to make a BIG
Map Editor background image, matching the one I later did for
the in-game BG, but the Map Editor couldn't swallow it. So, in
the end I have had to make individually designed BG's for the
different projects and that is not optimal.

Ah ok.. But better than nothing..

For me it isn't that bad if some is not 100% aligned... It is a game and not the most important thing of the world.. It is nice if it looks all correct but you can not have everything..

I appreciate what we have so far.. And joyn in for next better versions if availible. Don't get in time stress..

Yep, we cant have everything, thats 100% accurate, sadly. Happens in all things in life :)

The only solution i see, as you said is to make all modders to work over the same BG, from the beginning, but well, that will be a really hard thing to achieve keeping in mind all the mods around...

Small ideas:
Add thinner lines for the provinces/states/oblast/republic etc kingof fashion border line of bigger countries like Russia and China.
Also I love Bengan (just to express myself :D)

@SoupVC

Hi mate!!! Are you trying to pull reverse psychology on me???????
Either it won't work at all OR it will make me go in the reverse-
reverse direction and still claiming I fulfill your request to 100%.
So, to put another misleading question to you. Are you now REALLY
sure on what's going to happen???? :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
