Well folks, this game has some limits, among other things temporary buffers,
so the BG image can't be as big as I want it. Another thing is, but this I think
has to do with the DDS format definition, mipmaps can't be generated unless
the resolution is a power of 2. But we'll see! :D

@bogdac

Don't look up buddy, it might drop down into your eye! :lol: :lol: :lol:

EDIT: After trying to replace the SCS original Map Editor background with
this one covering quite a larger area, I have to give up this way as a valid
solution. It gives you a pretty bad solution at the working level, not that
the SCS original is very much better. I'll have to look around a bit more
to see if I can find a better solution. Here's the area I'm talking about.

The resolution on the image I got into the editor was 12136x8192, which
is not enough. Raising it will get me an image of more than 100MB, which
the game won't load.

Bengan, if you manage to do a background map for the Caspian Sea region, hit me up. I wanted to rework the most boring road in ETS history. :lol:

@FunTrucker_18

Sure mate, But what I'm trying to do now, is to avoid much of the "map stitching"
problem we will get if a lot of smaller area maps are released, probably not very
well connected to each other. It would really be nice if we could replace the SCS
original BG for Map Editor with a much larger one, in the correct map projection.
Then every mapper could concentrate more on mapping and NOT registering BG
images, before they can start the real work. Five minutes after I posted last I just
realized that SCS own DDS image for ME BG was compressed in DXT1, not DXT5, which
gives a lot more compression and smaller size of the image. We'll see if I can come
up with a good enough solution. :D

One drawback with using QGIS to, by itself, get OpenStreetMap (OSM) data,
is that I get all of it as ONE layer. I can't control the content and not choose
e.g. the colors of the various types of roads. So, right now I'm DL'ing the full
RAW OSM data for Europe, 20.1 GB, to hopefully be able to choose the content
and the appearance of it on the map. Keep your fingers crossed again! :D

Not a release yet just showing the status of the BG soon a release will be sending it over to BenganJ
let him run it a bit and then will see added all .mat and .tobj files enhanced the BG images
Hue/Sat/brightness/contrast etc .... hopefully the zoom is working better now, I will let
BenganJ decide on that but so far looks pretty good as he has stated b4 about SRmap, ROS, ME
not quite aligned well you will just have to read through some of his post here in this forum. to find
the reason why but overall it is aligned IMO close as it can get any more adjustments it will throw
it all off and out of alignment. Its a lot of work in out of game 300 plus times for adjustments.
I am on a laptop so may not be as good, if I was on my High End machine be better .. :)
