A question,

Your map background has a shape that looks like it is taken from the earth globe and.not a flat map.

There fore the eastern maps like SR, Greatsteppe and so on doesn't fit.

Does the mappers only have to correct the street map at this view to the background or do they have to shift their whole map? If yes there must be some roads made new or not?

If you read the info about the first three BG's in the first post, you'll see that they are in a map projection called
Lambert Conic Conformal and is specified by parameters in /def/climate.sii by SCS and is what Promods team is
calling the "new projection". You don't see the "globe" characteristic in the normal small SCS background, but gets
very much more prominent in my BIG ones.

Southern Region ought to be re-scaled to standard scale, then it will fit properly. The Great Steppe is already
under reconstruction by 09_KZ and all the maps coming up from the Road to Asia project will fit perfectly. Even
the new Morocco map Maghreb Map ( Mamap ) that is worked on by a team led by Msg97 will fit nicely! If I'm
correct, it will also include Algeria and Tunisia.

This new projection was introduced some versions ago by SCS and most of the old maps used the old projection
when they started out. Promods team has already started to convert their stuff, I just wished they would get the
worst case UK at least as SCS has done it, flagging it in the map to include UK and then being converted on the
fly. Any more questions?

Just for the record, this is how the Lambert Conic Conformal projection looks, when the whole world is included
and created with the parameters specified for ETS2 by SCS. ATS has other set of parameters.

With the parameters set for ATS it looks like this:

Ah ok.. Now I see. I was already wondering what dies this Lambert conic conformal means.

But it is as I was meaning, maybe I wrote it bad. Sorry.

So this projection is like we look onto our planet from space from the north pole.. And at ETS2 the center of this projection is in Europe,. Logically, while at ATS it is in the US..

But we have in both games a circle view at the map, that was it what I mean as I wrote globe...

And all the maps and the old projection is more like the classic world map view in an atlas book. And that is why the maps like SR and GS and Aral and so on doesn't fit..

Promods in your Promods version does fit exept the isle Spitzbergen in the very north has to be shifted..
But if Promods Team would do it is another question, since this world map is no product of them..

Thanks for explanations.. It is always good to see and to get background regarding the "magic" behind the game.

@MG Mike

For your info and what I already said earlier in the topic, Promods (Scul) has said
that Promods are working on the task to convert to the "new projection". It is
primarily a job of moving the outmost data a bit as it is those areas that are in
the biggest error to the BG now. Except for UK, where they have missed to tick
in the map config that the map includes UK. If that had been done we wouldn't
have been forced to make a special SAT BG version for Promods.

What you mean by FLAT is a sort of Mercator projection and looks like this centered for ETS2:

Concerning great Britain,

I think I have read in the past great Britain has another scale too? Instead of 1:19 a 1:15 or similar? It is a little bigger..
Or does it changed and I didn't noticed it?

No, UK is still in the scale of 1:15, BUT to remedy that, SCS has implemented
a possibility to tick in the map config, that a map includes UK. If the game then
see that, it will re-scale the UK area on the fly when the game is running. Promods
missed that ticking, so that's why UK looks much bigger in the game, compared
to SCS own version of UK.
