I'm still not sure what you want, but this is what you can do, except creating a PERFECT BG in one go.
There's two lines in the map_data.sii file, these towards the bottom,

	ui_map_center:	(-230640.0, 46000.0)   // in editor coordinates #default (-155530.0, 24520.0)
	ui_map_size:	(6200.0, 6250.5)	   // map texture in real km #default (6450.0, 10850.5)
where the first one makes it possible for you to move the BACKGROUND horizontally and vertically,
and the second you use to tell the game how many REAL kilometers horizontally and vertically the
BG image covers. You have NO opportunity to ROTATE the BG, so if that what you want, do it when
you create the image OR create a much bigger image and then rotate it in an app like GIMP e.g.,
then cut it to be square after that. Good Luck mate, but I have to warn you it's a damn tedious job
making a change to these parameters run the game, check, quit, change again, run, check ..........

EDIT: I doubt you will get anything from Wombats advice, but if you do, then I rest my case! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I already edited these parameters to make the background, wombat's advice was what I wanted for this.

Final version of my BG that BenganJ will hate here :lol:

No, no mate, I never hate, and this one is at least more consistent with the hor. & vert. scales,
not looking that distorted. The coverage of the BG though, is a lot of DEAD area at the bottom and
a VERY small part of China, with the map actually covering the whole of China, as Wulumuqi is
almost up at the border to Russia or Kazahkstan! So, I'll stick to mine! :D

I know, I have trouble with the scale used on ROC map, Taiwan is way too big in proportion to the rest, and there is no way to place correctly every city unless you butcher up everything. Which I did, already :lol:

So, are you surprised now that I gave up on those two maps? EAA, is the ONLY BG that
I've done where I somewhat distorted the BG to align better to the map data. That's
a standalone one too!

No, not at all surprised, it's simply not possible to create a correct background map.

You try to create a corect dimensioned background for a map built without any editor background. Easy task. Use a completly black background and you can't be wrong.
