Roextended Project

I found this entry in the config.cfg file. Does anyone knows what it does? I switched to 1 but after starting the game it went back to 0.
uset r_show_sun_cascades "0"

this is debuging value for sun shadow rendering visuazlization.
but AFAIK it does nothing in final released bulds.
