Map Editor Background
Re: Map Editor Background
Hello, sorry I’m hijacking this post lol it won’t let me start a new topic.
I’m just new at map building, and I plan to do a New Zealand map
Atm I’m trying to get the background image to show, I followed a tutorial I’m not sure how old it is but it won’t work it’s just a red screen
Any help would be appreciated or links to updated videos or tutorials, iv been searching and watching videos last few days
Thank you!

@Dawsonsa
Forget ALL about older tutorials! Have you used any of my World Map view BGs? You'll find them here: viewtopic.php?p=422#p422
The ones named Ultimate .... covers almost the whole world, even New Zeeland. What kind of map were you thinking of creating? A standalone or an addon map?
If standalone, in which scale? To me it would be a very nice idea to make an addon map of New Zeeland in scale 1:19 properly located on those Ultimate BGs.
I create many many Map Editor BGs for different teams, so that their maps will be positioned properly on the World Map view BG. Please. tell us a bit more and
we'll help you get started.

Okay, here we go! The scale of the SCS Vanilla games for ETS2 and ATS are 1:19 and 1:20 respective.
So, to make an addon map to those games you have to make it in one of those scales. BUT, you can
also make a STANDALONE map in any scale, but then you run that map totally on it's own.
Another thing to think about when creating an addon map is that SCS uses a special map projection,
namely Lambert Conic Conformal, so when you create a Map Editor (ME) background (BG), you have
to make it in that projection. If you look at my Ultimate BGs in the topic I pointed to earlier, you'll
see that mapping the global Earth onto a cone and then unfold it into a plane surface will have some
effect on where the countries end up. From the image in the Maperative program in your post I can
see that the map projection there is plain Mercator of some kind, NOT the required one I talk about.
That projection could be used for a STANDALONE map, but NOT for an ADDON map.
To illustrate, this is the orientation NZ will have in the correct projection,
and this is how the area around Aukland city will look like in the Editor if I would make the BG.
Here's a short video, where I show some released and upcoming addon maps in the outskirts of
my Ultimate BG, including the newly released Indonesian map now only containing the city of
Jakarta, but will cover Java and Bali islands and some more.
From what I've told you here now, can you please tell us what your plans are? Be as specific as you
can. BTW, have you run any of SCS's games with a combo map activated, i.e. one map as a base map
and one or more addon maps in a combination? Have you used any of my Ultimate or Universal BGs?
